What is Likewise Open?Likewise Open is an open source, community project sponsored by Likewise Software. What does Likewise Open do?Likewise Open allows users to authenticate Linux, Unix, and Mac systems with Microsoft Active Directory using their domain credentials. What platforms does it support?Today, most companies are running a combination of Microsoft® Windows™, one or more flavors of Linux®, UNIX® and perhaps a Mac™ or two. That’s why Likewise Enterprise offers broad support of over 125 platforms. If you’re interested in a distribution and it’s not on our current list, we want to know about it. Please contact us with the name of the distribution you’re interested in and we’ll get to work on it for you. Why does Likewise Open only authenticate with Active Directory? The overwhelming majority of Fortune 2000 companies are using Microsoft Active Directory in their networks. AD is the de facto standard for enterprise directories. Where can I get Likewise Open?Download Likewise Open directly from here. You can also access Likewise Open from the latest Ubuntu distro and in a growing number of places on the Web. Does Likewise Open support Group Policy? If your organization needs features such as group policy, audit and reporting, you can upgrade to Likewise Enterprise. How can I participate in the project? If you would like to become involved with the project, join one of the community mailing lists and discuss Likewise Open with other users and developers. How is Likewise Open different from Likewise Enterprise?Likewise Open is freely downloadable open source software for authenticating Linux, Unix, and Mac computers with Microsoft Active Directory. Likewise Enterprise is a commercially licensed, fully supported product that provides advanced Active Directory authentication, authorization, management, and reporting capabilities for Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X computers. Likewise Enterprise includes a management console, MMC snap-ins, and hundreds of group policies that empower you to manage Linux and Unix computers within Active Directory. |
